Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised concerns over the opposition coalition’s unity, suggesting that the presidential ambitions of its key figures could jeopardize its success in the 2027 general elections.
Omisore pointed out that the coalition’s unity is merely superficial, with each member harboring presidential aspirations. This, he argues, could lead to internal conflicts and weaken the coalition’s effectiveness against the APC.
Despite the coalition’s formation and the involvement of prominent political figures such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and others, Omisore remains skeptical about its potential to challenge the APC’s dominance. He cited past electoral performances as evidence of the coalition’s limited impact.
The senator’s comments follow a significant meeting of opposition leaders, who have united under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present a formidable challenge to the APC in the upcoming elections. However, Omisore views this development as more of a distraction than a threat.
As the political landscape evolves, the opposition’s ability to maintain unity and focus will be critical in determining its success against the ruling party.
