SERAP and Four Nigerians Sue FG Over NDDC Audit Report Secrecy

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), alongside four concerned citizens, has taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its refusal to release the forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The report is said to expose the embezzlement of N6 trillion by top officials and politicians from 2001 to 2019.

Legal Battle for Transparency

Filed at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, the lawsuit seeks to compel the Nigerian government to publish the audit findings, arguing that the secrecy surrounding the report violates international human rights obligations. The plaintiffs, including prominent figures like Prince Taiwo Aiyedatiwa, are pushing for accountability in the NDDC’s financial operations.

Government’s Silence Questioned

Despite the audit’s completion, the government has neither released the report nor provided a justification for its concealment. This lack of transparency has raised concerns about the commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring public access to information.
