Datti Baba-Ahmed’s Unexpected Attendance Sparks Hope for LP Unity
The 2023 vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, made a notable appearance at the National Executive Council meeting convened by the Julius Abure faction of the party. This meeting, held in Abuja, marked a significant moment in the ongoing internal crisis that has split the party into two opposing factions.
A Peacemaker’s Role
Baba-Ahmed clarified his attendance as an effort to bridge the divide within the party. “I am here as a peacemaker and I am also here to reconcile divergent opinions,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to the party’s unity despite the existing factions led by Abure and Nenadi Usman.
Commitment to the Labour Party
While acknowledging his participation in opposition coalition meetings, Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party. “I have attended and I have listened to the coalition attempts. Yes, I still remain in the Labour Party,” he declared, highlighting his dedication to the party’s principles and his hope for internal reconciliation.
