Domestic Airlines Refund Over ₦1bn to Passengers
Domestic airlines in Nigeria have refunded more than ₦1 billion to 5,285 passengers during the second quarter of 2025, according to data released by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The refunds, totaling ₦1,038,505,680.80, were made between April and June 2025, highlighting the NCAA’s efforts to enforce passenger protection obligations.
Regulatory Oversight and Passenger Rights
The NCAA emphasized that flight cancellations do not automatically guarantee a seat on the next scheduled flight but entitle passengers to a seat on the next available flight with open seats. The authority also clarified the conditions under which passengers are eligible for refunds or compensation, including the necessity of submitting a formal complaint to the airline before escalating to the NCAA.
How to File a Complaint
Passengers were urged to file reports via the NCAA’s consumer protection portal or through specified email addresses, as social media posts alone do not constitute official complaints. The NCAA encourages air travellers to familiarize themselves with Nigeria’s civil aviation regulations to better understand their rights and responsibilities in cases of flight disruptions.
