Deadly Crash in Dhaka

At least 27 people, mostly children, lost their lives when a Bangladeshi fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College in Dhaka. The incident, which occurred on Monday, has been described as the country’s deadliest aviation accident in decades.

Victims and Aftermath

Among the deceased, 25 were schoolchildren who had just been dismissed from class. The crash also resulted in over 170 injuries, with 78 individuals currently receiving treatment in various hospitals. The pilot, flight lieutenant Towkir Islam, was also killed in the crash.

Investigation Underway

The Bangladesh military reported that the pilot was on a routine training mission when the aircraft encountered mechanical failure. Despite efforts to divert the jet away from populated areas, it crashed into the school. The exact cause of the failure remains under investigation.

National Mourning

In response to the tragedy, the interim government declared a day of national mourning. Muhammad Yunus, expressing deep sorrow, emphasized the irreparable loss to the Air Force, the school community, and the nation at large.
