Senate Stands Firm on Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Suspension

Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu has clarified that Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains suspended until the Senate resumes from its current recess in two months. This statement came after the Senate prevented the lawmaker from entering the National Assembly to resume her legislative duties.

Background of the Suspension

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 following a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which involved allegations of sexual misconduct against Akpabio—a claim he has denied. The suspension was imposed for violating Senate rules during the altercation.

Attempt to Resume Duties

Relying on a recent judgment by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker attempted to return to Senate proceedings on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. However, her efforts were thwarted as she was denied entry into the National Assembly.
