Baba-Ahmed’s Concern Over Tinubu’s Silence
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has voiced his concerns regarding the president’s silence on circulating rumours about plans to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima before the 2027 elections. Despite the elections being two years away, the speculation has sparked discussions and debates across the political landscape.
The Rumours and Official Response
Amidst the rumours, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga previously dismissed the claims as a ‘non-issue,’ indicating that any decision regarding the vice-presidential candidate would be made after the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination. However, Baba-Ahmed, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, argued that a direct statement from President Tinubu would have been more effective in dispelling the rumours.
Call for Presidential Clarity
Baba-Ahmed emphasized the importance of President Tinubu addressing the rumours personally to affirm his confidence in Vice President Shettima and to halt the ongoing speculation. He suggested that such a move would not only clarify the situation but also strengthen the working relationship between the president and his vice.
