Governor’s Firm Stance on Party Loyalty
During the PDP Stakeholders Conference held in Abuja, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, voiced his disapproval of PDP members who have joined forces with a new opposition coalition, which has chosen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform. Governor Mohammed stressed the impossibility of being a member of both the PDP and the coalition simultaneously, labeling such behavior as an ‘aberration’.
Party Discipline Under Scrutiny
The chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum did not mince words, stating that the party would no longer tolerate what he described as ‘indiscipline’. He urged members to make a clear choice between the PDP and the coalition, underscoring the importance of loyalty and unity within the party ranks.
Echoes of Discontent Among Founding Members
The governor’s sentiments were shared by many of the party’s founding members present at the conference. They criticized the idea of claiming allegiance to the PDP while actively supporting the interests of other political parties. This comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal crises, including the recent resignation of its 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, citing irreconcilable differences.
