APC Chieftain Reveals Rejection of Governor Adeleke’s Defection
Jamiu Olawumi, a prominent figure in the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has disclosed that the party’s leadership turned down Governor Ademola Adeleke’s efforts to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Olawumi made these claims during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, highlighting the governor’s alleged lobbying attempts.
Internal Party Dynamics at Play
Olawumi elaborated on the reasons behind the APC’s decision, pointing to concerns from civil servants and the established leadership structure within the party, which places Chief Bisi Akande at the helm. He emphasized that Governor Adeleke’s potential defection would not alter the existing leadership hierarchy.
Governor Adeleke’s Commitment to PDP
Despite the swirling rumors, Governor Adeleke has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, announcing his endorsement for a second term in 2026 and backing President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027. This declaration came after a strategic meeting with the PDP leadership in Osogbo, aiming to quash speculation about his political future.
Defection Fallout
The political landscape in Osun State continues to evolve as two senators recently defected from the PDP to the APC, a move described by the governor’s aide as a miscalculation. Olawumi, however, views the defection as a strategic exit from a party marred by governance issues.
