Zamfara Assembly Voices Concern Over Governor’s Inaction
Speaker Bashir Aliyu Gummi of the Zamfara State House of Assembly has accused Governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting the plight of citizens as insecurity worsens across the state. The assembly highlighted the governor’s failure to address recent attacks or provide condolences to affected families.
Recent Attacks and Legislative Response
Lawmakers pointed to a series of violent incidents in Jangebe, Damri, Kyambarawa, and Bungudu, resulting in numerous casualties and abductions. They expressed disappointment over the lack of state government response to these tragedies.
Call for Enhanced Security Measures
The assembly urged for increased funding for the Community Protection Guards (CPGs), timely compensation for families of deceased security personnel, and the deployment of additional forces to high-risk areas. Allegations of mismanaged security votes and donor funds were also raised, prompting the formation of an investigative committee.
Proposal for New Local Government Areas
In a bid to improve governance, the assembly discussed the creation of new local government areas, including Dansadau, Sauri, Mada, Jangebe, and Damri, to address administrative challenges.
