Nigeria is set to revolutionize its land titling system, aiming to significantly increase the economic value of land across the nation. The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has unveiled ambitious plans to improve land title formalization to 50% within the next decade, a move that could dramatically enhance the use of land as collateral for loans and its value in property transactions.
Minister Ahmed Dangiwa announced this initiative during a landmark workshop in Lagos, emphasizing the goal to modernize land administration and make land a more viable asset for wealth creation and inclusive growth. This strategy includes digitizing land registries and integrating geographic information systems, following the successful model implemented in Lagos State.
With over 97% of lands in Nigeria currently untitled, this initiative represents a critical step towards securing land rights and fostering economic development. States across Nigeria, including Oyo, Imo, and Kano, have expressed readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to achieve this transformative goal.
