The Edo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against corruption and criminal activities within its ranks and among civilians. A serving police inspector and three civilian accomplices have been arrested for their involvement in a series of extortion, brutality, and armed robbery incidents in Benin City.
According to a statement released by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Edo State Command Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, after numerous complaints from the public. The suspects were intercepted by the Ugbowo Surveillance Team on August 15, 2025, with a silver Toyota Yaris and other incriminating items in their possession.
The arrested officer, identified as Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi, along with his civilian collaborators—Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho—had been allegedly extorting and harassing residents, creating a climate of fear in the city.
The Edo State Police Command has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and unprofessional conduct, warning that any officer found guilty of such acts will face the full wrath of the law. The command also urged victims and witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
