Court Clarifies Yahaya Bello’s Passport Not Held by FCT High Court

In a recent hearing, the FCT High Court disclosed that former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s passport is under the custody of the Federal High Court, not theirs. The court hinted at considering the release if it were in their possession.

FCT High Court Denies Custody of Yahaya Bello’s Passport

Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has clarified that the travel passport of Yahaya Bello, the immediate-past Governor of Kogi State, is not in its custody but with the Federal High Court, Abuja. This statement came during the resumed hearing of the money laundering case against Bello by the EFCC.

Application for Passport Release Considered

Justice Anenih mentioned that the court would have entertained the application for the release of Bello’s travel document had it been in their custody. However, since the passport is with Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, any decision on its release would be ineffective.

Case Adjourned

The court has adjourned the case to October 8, 9, and November 13, 2025, for further hearing. Bello faces similar charges at both the FCT and the Federal High Courts in Abuja.
