ExxonMobil Nigeria Announces Leadership Change
ExxonMobil has appointed Jagir Baxi as the new Chairman and Managing Director, as well as Lead Country Manager, for its affiliates in Nigeria. This includes Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) Limited. Baxi succeeds Shane Haris in this pivotal role.

Jagir Baxi brings to the table a vast reservoir of experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities. In his new role, he will be at the helm of ExxonMobil’s business operations in Nigeria, steering the company towards achieving its strategic objectives in the region.

My personal commitment is to sustain and grow the strong collaborative relationships we have built with the Nigerian Government, NNPCL, venture partners, various contractors, and the communities in which we operate,” said Baxi.
Nigeria’s Potential in Oil and Gas
Baxi highlighted Nigeria’s significant offshore deepwater growth potential in oil and gas. He expressed optimism about the improving investment climate and the advantages of existing deepwater assets at Erha and Usan. “I feel very privileged to be a part of the ExxonMobil team that is working hard to deploy our global deepwater capabilities and strengths to support Nigeria in achieving its oil and gas industry aspirations,” he added.
Background of the New Leader
Prior to his appointment, Baxi served as the Executive Director for Production for all ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria. With a career spanning over two decades at ExxonMobil, Baxi has held various senior leadership roles across the globe, including in Australia, Angola, Iraq, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and the U.S.A. His expertise spans operations, joint venture management, commercial, engineering, and new project start-ups.
Baxi, an Australian national, holds graduate degrees in Engineering and Science from Monash University, Australia, and a Master of Business Administration from Melbourne Business School, Australia.
