France Condemns Abuses in Syria

France has called for an immediate halt to the abuses targeting civilians in Syria’s Sweida, following reports of summary executions by government forces. The foreign ministry’s statement emphasized the need for all parties to respect the ceasefire and cease hostilities.

Violence in Sweida

Syrian government forces entered Sweida under the pretext of enforcing a ceasefire but were accused of participating in attacks against Druze fighters and civilians. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported 21 Druze civilians killed in summary executions.

International Response

France supports efforts towards dialogue and stability in Syria, urging protection for all communities. Meanwhile, the EU has lifted some sanctions to aid Syria’s recovery but imposed new ones on militia groups linked to attacks on minority communities.
