The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has convened a meeting with retired police officers who have been protesting in Abuja over their poor welfare and the contributory pension scheme (CPS). The meeting is being held at the peacekeeping hall within the Force Headquarters.
Protest Highlights
Earlier this week, a group of retired police officers, many of whom are elderly, took their grievances to the National Assembly. They stood in the rain, displaying placards and voicing their dissatisfaction through songs. The protest extended to the force headquarters, where they continued to demand better treatment and the abolition of the CPS.
IGP’s Response
Addressing the protesters, IGP Egbetokun acknowledged their concerns regarding welfare but clarified that exiting the CPS is a process that cannot be immediate. He also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, reaffirming the force’s commitment to its retired members.
