Lagos Police Uncover Massive Visa Scam
The Lagos State Police Command has made a breakthrough in a high-profile visa scam case, arresting four individuals accused of defrauding more than 100 Nigerians out of ₦500 million. The suspects, identified as Blessing Wefsutu (27), Chineye Christian (36), Archibong Udeme Ifereke (23), and Maurine Peter (25), were apprehended by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
How the Scam Operated
Operating under the guise of an educational consultancy firm in Ago Okota, Lagos, the suspects allegedly lured victims with false promises of securing Canadian and Australian work visas. The case, initially reported at the Ago Okota Division, was escalated to the SCID for a thorough investigation.
Police Statement
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, revealed that preliminary investigations uncovered the fraudulent acquisition of ₦500 million from unsuspecting victims. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has since issued a warning to the public to verify the authenticity of travel and recruitment agencies before engaging in any visa-related transactions.
Ongoing Investigations
Further investigations have indicated that the syndicate has additional members still at large. The police have assured the public of their commitment to apprehending all involved parties and bringing them to justice. The arrested suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
