Legal Expert Disputes Recall Claims

Ekemini Udim, a legal practitioner, has countered Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s assertion that a court verdict mandated her recall to the Senate, clarifying that the judgment did not explicitly order the lifting of her suspension.

Court’s Recommendation Misinterpreted

Udim explained that the court’s decision was misinterpreted, stating it only recommended the Senate review its rules rather than directly ordering the senator’s recall. This clarification comes after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s unsuccessful attempt to resume her duties at the National Assembly.

Senate’s Firm Stance

The Senate maintains that Akpoti-Uduaghan remains suspended, with spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu reiterating that the court’s recommendation does not equate to a recall order, highlighting the ongoing legal and procedural complexities surrounding the case.
