Scores of bandits have been neutralized in a meticulously coordinated air strike by the Nigerian Air Force’s Operation Fasan Yamma in Zamfara State’s Makakkari Forest.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed the operation’s success, highlighting the elimination of several notorious kingpins and their foot soldiers. The operation, which combined aerial precision strikes with ground assaults, was based on intelligence indicating an imminent attack on a farming community by over 400 bandits.
Ejodame praised the synergy between air and land components, calling the operation exceptional. This development comes as armed groups, locally referred to as bandits, continue to terrorize northwest and central Nigeria, engaging in village raids, kidnappings for ransom, and looting.
The conflict has exacerbated a malnutrition crisis in the region, displacing farmers and complicating efforts to address food insecurity, further aggravated by climate change and reduced western aid.
Despite ongoing military efforts since 2015 and the establishment of a state-backed militia in Zamfara, violence persists, with bandits increasingly collaborating with jihadist groups in the northeast.
