NASS Calls for Immediate 4% FOB Charge Implementation

Senator Isah Jibrin, Chairman of the National Assembly joint committee on Customs and Tariffs, has emphasized the urgency of implementing the 4% Free-On-Board (FOB) charge as stipulated by law to enhance the Nigeria Customs Service’s operations.

Finance Minister Questioned on Delays

During a meeting with the Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of the economy, Wale Edun, Senator Jibrin raised concerns over the delay in enforcing the FOB provision, highlighting the legal mandate for its immediate application.

Unanimous Support for Enforcement

The committee’s unanimous vote in favor of enforcing the FOB charge underscores the legislative body’s commitment to adhering to existing laws and improving Customs efficiency.

Push for Customs Modernization

Additionally, the National Assembly has called on the finance minister to accelerate the release of funds earmarked for Customs modernization projects, including a significant ₦50 billion initiative awaiting approval.
