Nigeria Meets OPEC Oil Production Quota

Nigeria’s crude oil production has successfully met the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota of 1.5 million barrels per day in June, a first in several years. This achievement is a testament to the country’s efforts to ramp up production amidst challenges.

Production Growth and Future Goals

From a production level of 1.1mb/d in 2023, Nigeria has seen a steady increase, reaching 1.505mb/d in June 2025. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is optimistic about further growth, aiming for 1.9mbpd by the end of the year and 2.06mbpd by 2027.

Challenges and Opportunities

Despite the progress, Nigeria’s oil production is still below the 2.06mbpd target set in the 2025 budget. The NNPCL highlights the need for more investments to boost production and the importance of maintaining the current momentum in pipeline security and availability.
