Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully thwarted terrorist plans, leading to the arrest of two suspects in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. The operations, based on credible intelligence, mark a significant step in the fight against terrorism and kidnapping in the region.

High-Ranking Kidnapping Syndicate Member Apprehended

Felix Myina, a 45-year-old native of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, was arrested by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Wukari. Preliminary investigations reveal Myina’s involvement with a notorious bandit and kidnapping syndicate under the leadership of a wanted criminal kingpin known as Mcianan or Yellow. The group has been a persistent threat to motorists and residents along the Jootar–Wukari axis. A Tecno mobile phone was recovered from Myina at the time of arrest.

Suspected ISWAP Terrorist Caught in the Act

In a related operation, troops arrested Abubakar Yusuf, a 26-year-old suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Yusuf, a native of Borno State residing in Gassol Local Council of Taraba, was intercepted performing strange rituals at the Aku-Uka Palace Junction, a location identified as a potential target for ISWAP attacks. Items recovered from Yusuf include a dead chicken, nine unhatched rotten eggs, one animal horn, and a bottle containing a powdered substance and pieces of fresh meat. Yusuf was allegedly attempting to spiritually prepare the town for terrorist activities.

Commander Applauds Troops and Public Cooperation

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, praised the troops’ vigilance and the public’s cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. Uwa emphasized the importance of continued public support in the military’s efforts to eliminate criminal elements and restore peace in Taraba State.
