President Bola Tinubu has taken a significant step towards enhancing Nigeria’s digital economy by appointing new board members for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF). This move underscores the administration’s commitment to leveraging technology for national development.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed the appointments in a statement, highlighting the expertise and experience of the new board members. Among the notable appointments is Idris Olorunnimbe, who has been named Chairman of the NCC board, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous roles in governance and stakeholder management.
Dr Aminu Wada continues his tenure as the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, a position he has held since October 2023. His leadership is expected to drive the commission’s mandate of regulating Nigeria’s telecommunications industry towards greater heights.
The USPF board will be chaired by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, with Olorunnimbe serving as Vice Chairman. The board’s composition reflects a blend of technical expertise and strategic vision aimed at expanding ICT access to underserved areas in Nigeria.
This development is a clear indication of the government’s dedication to fostering an inclusive digital economy, ensuring that the benefits of technology reach every corner of the country.
