European champions Paris Saint-Germain announced on Tuesday the signing of Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi from Premier League club Bournemouth, in a deal reported to be worth around £57 million ($76.7 million, 66 million euros).

“Paris Saint-Germain are excited to welcome Illia Zabarnyi,” PSG stated, highlighting that Zabarnyi will be the first Ukrainian to ever play for the club. This move not only signifies PSG’s commitment to strengthening their squad but also marks a significant milestone in the club’s history.

The 22-year-old defender, who had an impressive 2024-2025 season with Bournemouth, finishing ninth in the Premier League and being voted the club’s player of the season, is expected to bring fresh energy to PSG’s defensive lineup. His arrival may also challenge the position of Brazilian stalwart Marquinhos.

PSG, who recently thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 to claim their first Champions League title in May, continue to bolster their squad with the addition of highly-rated Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, signaling potential changes ahead, including the possible departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
