The Alternative Bank Takes a Stand Against Plastic Pollution
Today marks a significant step in the fight against plastic pollution in Lagos, as The Alternative Bank kicks off its ‘Walk4ZeroPlastic’ campaign at Tejuosho Market, Yaba. This initiative is part of the Sterling Sustainability Working Group’s World Environment Day Program, focusing on reducing plastic waste and promoting environmental responsibility at the grassroots level.
Community and Sustainability at the Heart of the Campaign
With the theme ‘In Markets, On Streets, For the Future,’ the campaign combines a symbolic walk with practical actions like plastic recovery and market sensitization. The effort targets the critical issue of plastic waste in Lagos, particularly in markets like Tejuosho, known for improper disposal practices.
A Collective Effort for a Cleaner Future
Hassan Yusuf, Managing Director and CEO of The Alternative Bank, emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the plastic crisis. The campaign aims to mobilize employees, volunteers, and local communities to not only clean up but also foster a deeper understanding of sustainable practices.
Partnerships for Progress
The initiative is supported by key partners, including Wastebanc and various Lagos State agencies, highlighting a united front against plastic pollution. This campaign is a testament to The Alternative Bank’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement, aligning with global efforts like the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
