Privacy Campaigners Target TikTok Over Data Access
Online privacy advocates have launched fresh complaints against TikTok and two other Chinese-owned companies, alleging non-compliance with data access requests under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Continued Violations Highlighted
Despite previous complaints, TikTok, AliExpress, and WeChat have reportedly continued to violate GDPR, failing to provide European users with clear access to their personal data, according to Noyb, a prominent privacy campaign group.
Regulatory Actions and Fines
The complaints, filed in Greece, Belgium, and the Netherlands, seek to compel the companies to fulfill access requests and face fines. TikTok’s recent fine of 530 million euros by Ireland’s Data Protection Commission underscores the ongoing scrutiny over data transfers to China.
