A tragic road accident in the Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State has left 12 people dead, with several others injured.

The accident, involving a DAF Trailer loaded with goods and passengers, occurred along the Zaria–Kano Highway near Samawa Village. Preliminary investigations suggest a mechanical failure as the cause, with the trailer’s cab detaching from the body, leading to a loss of control.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has responded to the incident, transporting the deceased to Nasarawa Hospital Mortuary and the injured to Kura General Hospital. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has called for stricter enforcement of vehicle maintenance standards and the phasing out of unsafe vehicles.

This incident underscores the critical need for all stakeholders to prioritize road safety to prevent such avoidable tragedies in the future.
