Building Collapse in Kano Leaves Two Dead, Eight Rescued
A three-storey building under construction in Kano State’s Sabon Gari area collapsed late Sunday night, following heavy rainfall that lasted over five hours. The incident claimed the lives of two individuals who had sought shelter from the rain inside the building.
Rescue Efforts and Aftermath
Eight survivors were rescued from the debris and are currently receiving medical treatment at Murtala Mohammed hospital. The Executive Secretary of Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Isyaku Kubarachi, highlighted the inferior structure of the building as a key factor in the collapse, urging for legal action against those responsible for using substandard materials.
Community Outcry and Ongoing Investigations
Local residents expressed their grief and frustration, recalling previous warnings about the building’s poor construction quality. Excavation efforts continue as authorities and community members work together to ensure no more victims remain trapped under the rubble.
