Yobe State Government Reopens Markets
The Yobe state government, in collaboration with security agencies, has announced the reopening of the Kukareta and Buniyadi markets. These markets were previously closed as part of efforts to cut off suspected food supply chains to insurgents terrorizing the region.
Security Measures Remain in Place
Dahiru Abdulsalam, the Security Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni, highlighted that while the markets are reopening, the ban on the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) between 6 pm to 6 am remains enforced. Violators will face strict penalties.
Task Force to Monitor Farmland Encroachment
Additionally, the state government plans to establish a task force aimed at monitoring and preventing the encroachment of farmlands and cattle routes. This initiative seeks to further reduce clashes between farmers and herders, building on recent improvements in the situation.
