The Kaura-Namoda South Constituency by-election in Zamfara State has been marked by a peaceful atmosphere and an impressive voter turnout. This electoral exercise, necessitated by the unfortunate demise of the incumbent lawmaker, Aminu Kasuwar-Daji, saw citizens coming out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights.
Despite the peaceful conduct, the election was not without its challenges. Reports of voter inducement surfaced in some polling units, casting a shadow over the integrity of the process. Additionally, the accreditation process was marred by delays attributed to the BVAS machines, causing frustration among voters.
In a more alarming development, voting at Kasuwar Daji Primary School was disrupted by suspected thugs, leading to the cancellation of votes in two out of three polling units in the area. This incident has raised questions about the security measures in place during the election.
Observers, however, have lauded the overall conduct of the election, describing it as peaceful and reflective of the people’s will. The deployment of the Community Protection Guards, aimed at complementing the efforts of security agencies, was a notable measure to address the insecurity in some parts of the constituency.
